Before I share my list of my favorite television shows – I do have to say that I haven’t watched many of the shows that are mentioned on other sites as the best of 2013.
The shows that I haven’t watched:
- American Horror Story
Show that I have started and love, but I’m not caught up yet:
- Breaking Bad
- Person of Interest
Biggest Disappointment: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
A lot of hype, but ending up with poor story telling and no overarching story arc. I hope they can make some changes, because I think the show could be great.
Here we go with the Top 10:
10. New Girl
Great show, but this third season is not as good as the first two. Hopefully they can turn it around. I love Zooey – she is hilarious!
Great acting by James Spader makes this show for me. Nice story arc made me want to watch each episode.
8. Big Bang Theory
As my wife shares often, I would fit very well being a character on this show. Yes, I am a geek.
I thought the first season of the this show was amazing – I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The story of a POW coming home and having ties to a terrorist cell was very intriguing. But each season since has been less thrilling. I’m not sure where they can take the show from here.
6. Orange is the New Black
“Every Sentence is a Story” is a great tagline for this show. Each episode shares the backstory of one of the characters and how they made it into prison. I haven’t finished all of the episodes yet, but I love what I have seen.
5. House of Cards
Kevin Spacey’s acting is fantastic. Great storyline. Looking forward to the new season that drops on Valentines day.
4. Sons of Anarchy
This season finale of the current season (season 6) left me speechless. Without giving spoilers, it was a shocking end. Can’t wait for next season.
3. The Walking Dead
What can I say, I love this show! I keep up on the Walking Dead comics and I love to see how Robert Kirkman create the show using ideas for the comics, but yet provide so much new direction that it keeps it very interesting.
This show has turned out so much better than I initially thought it would be. Each episode has big name drops from the DC Universe. When the mentioned Ra’s Al Ghul in season 2, I was blown away. Looking forward to seeing the Flash spinoff show.
1. Game of Thrones
I have to be honest and say that The Walking Dead, Arrow, and Game of Thrones are really a 3-way tie for #1. I love all 3 shows and look forward to seeing them. The reason I place Game of Thrones at #1 for this year was the impact of the Red Wedding (episode #9 of Season 3).
Also, just to let you know that many of the shows that I listed have Adult content. So please be warned before you sit down to watch them with your kids. Especially with Game of Thrones, I wish that the show was more teenage appropriate so that I could watch the show with my oldest son Jake – who would absolutely love the story.
